Established in 1974, the Law Foundation of Ontario is a non-profit organization with a mandate to help more people to understand the law and use it to improve their lives. The Law Foundation of Ontario takes an active and engaging approach to their work as a grant maker and to carry out their mandate of advancing access to justice. The Foundation works with and gives out over $1B in grants to hundreds of carefully selected grantees and to Legal Aid Ontario.

Business Challenge

The Foundation sought to create a seamless experience for all its users and take its grantee engagement into a new digital era. The website's information architecture was fragmented, the branding outdated and the overall user experience was poor. The website failed to meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA requirements.  

As a result, the Law Foundation aimed to reconstruct its outdated digital platform with a full rebrand and refreshed creative redesign, while incorporating tools that would facilitate greater organizational efficiency.

Deliverables and Outcomes A User-Centered Digital Experience for All

The Law Foundation tasked Enginess with creating a website concept that would present content in a way that is different, user-centred and innovative. The redesign required more than a brand refresh: it required the information design and content strategy to be re-architected to meet the intended vision of The Law Foundation. The new website features modern web tools, including a grants database, advanced search function, social media, email integrations, and more.

Additionally, our team ensured that the content authoring tools for CMS administrators are intuitive and allow for simplified creation and publishing of relevant content for each respective audience.

Transformative Vision Enginess transformed the Foundation’s online presence from a digital brochure into a highly integrated, user-friendly and responsive product that puts the Law Foundation’s main messaging and ultimate objective at the forefront. The upgraded website meets the needs of multiple stakeholders and acts as a hub for the organization’s services, programs and advocacy activities.

Our engagement began with a discovery phase that involved digital strategy and UX research, to ensure the organization’s needs and goals were properly captured. The discovery phase included a user experience audit, content inventory and research into the existing state of the website and the Law Foundation’s technology ecosystem.
